Informations
In 2024, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign affairs launched the Laboratory for women’s rights online. This initiative is the first global and multi-stakeholder platform of exchange and collaboration aiming at identifying, preventing and combating online and technology-facilitated gender-based violence (“TFGBV”) – including gender-based violence generated by AI (deepfakes, cyberharassment campaigns generated by AI, gendered disinformation). The Laboratory gathers governments, national regulatory authorities, international organisations, civil society organisations, tech platforms, research institutes and researchers, as well as victims and survivors.
In addition to providing a space for dialogue, the Laboratory for women’s rights online is commissioned to support transnational projects designed to combat online and technology-facilitated gender-based violence around the world. Every year, 5 projects, selected through an open call for projects, receive financial and logistical support to develop and scale up innovative, technical solutions as well as research projects on the matter.
At this side-event of the AI Action Summit, the 5 laureates of the 2024-2025 call for projects will have the opportunity to present their projects to the public for the first time. Moreover, a discussion will be held with members of the Board of the Laboratory, including representatives of Governments, the UN, tech companies, researchers and survivors of online and technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
