Upon your arrival

When and how can you get your ENS-PSL multifunction card?

New normaliens (students preparing for the diplôme de l’ENS (DENS), ie International Selection students and students recruited via the concours normalien étudiant should choose a slot on the calendar to collect their card. It will be possible to get it as from September 1st – no card will be issued before this date.

New Master’s students must first complete their inscription administrative (administrative registration). Once it has been validated, an email will be sent with all the information needed to retrieve the card.

All cards must be withdrawn at 45, rue d’Ulm.

This card is used for :
• access to all or part of the school premises depending on the student’s status,
• access to the school’s libraries and to borrow books,
• access to the school’s restaurant and cafeteria.

It is the equivalent of the student card and is valid proof to benefit from student discounts (in museums, cinemas, public transportation, etc.).

You can access the restaurant as soon as you have obtained your multifunction card and after having credited your account on this card. You can do so
• from the intranet, on the page Rechargement compte restaurant
• or by credit card on the machines located at the entrance to the restaurant and in the cafeteria. Remember to ask for your receipt the first time you visit the restaurant (it is otherwise not given to save paper) in order to get your ID number at the bottom of the receipt.

In the cafeteria, you can pay with your multifunction card or by credit card. In the restaurant as in the cafeteria, it is not possible to pay in cash.

Opening hours
Restaurant: Monday to Friday from 11.40 am to 2 pm
Cafeteria: Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm

Prices
The restaurant and the cafeteria will be open as from Monday, August 31, 2020.

Students and pupils enrolled at the ENS-PSL benefit from special prices. They will be automatically taken into account on your multifunction card 24 hours after its issue. You can access the restaurant before this date, but at the normal rate, i.e. €11.30.

Discovering the school

How to participate in orientation?

Registration for the various events takes place on the "Agenda & inscriptions" part of this website. You will receive an email allowing you to access this registration platform at the end of August.

Normaliens, élèves and étudiants, are required to attend one of the sessions devoted to health, prevention and safety (four possible slots, on 13 and 14 September). They must also participate in the presentation of their future department, as well as other department presentations if they wish. The presentation of the ENS and its diploma, in Humanities or Sciences, is also essential for all normaliens.

Master’s students must attend the meeting organized for their Master. They are also strongly encouraged to take part in the presentation of the ENS and PSL, offered on two different dates : Saturday 4 September at 10am, and Thursday 23 September at 6pm.

Access to each of the libraries requires specific registration. To register online, go to www.bib.ens.fr, then click Préinscription.

Coming on campus

What are the health rules on campus?

The measures that should be applied evolve regularly: go to this page in order to get the most recent instructions.

A distance of one meter between each person must be respected: this implies not entering a room without being invited, respecting floor markings, or not going into an elevator with other people. You should also follow the signs when you enter and leave a room and keep to the right in corridors.

These instructions will be updated before the start of the school year to take into account changes in the health situation. Remember to check this website before coming to campus.

If you have symptoms of covid 19, you have been tested positive, or you have been in contact with someone who has covid 19:
  • Self-isolate immediately
  • Follow the rules laid out by Santé publique France
  • Notify the pôle santé (the health centre of the ENS) and the person in charge of covid cases (référente Covid-19) by writing to covid-19@ens.psl.eu, or by calling the pôle santé (01 44 32 31 49) or the référente Covid-19 (06 08 32 63 71)

Arrival of normaliens living on campus

Where will I live?

Most 1st-year students will have a room at 45 or 44-48 rue d’Ulm, and about 30 of them will live on the Jourdan campus (48 boulevard Jourdan), next to the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris and a stone’s throw from the parc Montsouris. The allocation will be made on a random basis.

Those staying at Jourdan will be informed in early September, and will have to go to Jourdan directly upon their arrival to collect their key and settle in, before going to 45 rue d’Ulm at the time of their appointment to collect their multifunction card.

New students will arrive on Wednesday 1st, Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd September. You will pick up your key at the same time as your multifunction card. It is essential to make an appointment via this website's Agenda. Please note that there is no time slot open on Saturdays and Sundays.

International normaliens are invited to attend a special welcoming event on Friday 3rd Sept in the afternoon. They will be given the details and the programme in an email message.

Before picking up your key: you must send your bank details as well as a payment authorisation to hebergement@ens.psl.eu when you confirm your coming to ENS and ask for accommodation.

• If your room is located rue d’Ulm (it will be the case if you don’t get a message saying you will be at Jourdan): you will be able to get your keys on September 1st, 2nd or 3rd, together with your multifunction card. To do so, simply make an appointment on the dedicated platform and on the day of your appointment, go to salle Weil (ground floor of 45, rue d’Ulm, Pantheon campus).
• If you are staying at Jourdan: you will need to collect your keys from the reception desk at the Jourdan campus. We advise you to choose an afternoon slot for the collection of your multifunction card and to dedicate the morning to your installation on the Jourdan campus. This will allow you to leave your personal belongings in your room before coming to Ulm to collect your card. An e-mail will be sent to you at the end of August with all relevant information.

If you are staying on campus, you have a postal address at 45, rue d’Ulm, 75005 Paris. Please do not forget to specify your room number so that the mail service can deposit your letters in your locker on the Ulm or Jourdan campuses.

Please note that it usually takes a few weeks to set up the pigeonholes. Before that, you will collect your mail at the service courrier opposite the main entrance of the 45.

Parking at 46 rue d’Ulm

Longer or more regular access to the car park at 46 rue d’Ulm is possible for a limited number of vehicles. In order to submit your request, you have to fill out the online form on degetteweb, print it out and send it back to the DG with the necessary documents (including an insurance certificate). If your request can be satisfied, your ENS card will be activated for parking access in the following working days.
